International College of Complementary and Alternative Medicine (ICCAM) was established in the United States due to the global demands of standardizing the integrative approach in treating the world’s population. It seeks to transform health care from a focus on disease to a focus on wellness.
This transformation will result in positive outcomes for public health, including reduced morbidity, increased functional capacity, increased longevity of the population, and significant reduction in health care costs.
Our mission is to preserve, protect, improve, and promote the complementary and alternative (CAM) profession and service our graduates to benefit their patients that they serve. The purpose of ICCAM is to provide leadership in health care and a positive vision for its profession and natural approach to health and wellness.
Our goal is to affect public policy and legislation, by promoting higher standards in professional ethics and quality treatment, and by carrying out a dynamic strategic plan to help ensure professional growth and success of CAM.
The principles of CAM are as followed:
◎ A partnership between patient and practitioner in the healing process
◎ Appropriate use of conventional and alternative methods to facilitate the body’s innate healing response
◎ Consideration of all factors that influence health, wellness and disease,including mind,spirit and community as well as body
◎ A philosophy that neither rejects conventional medicine nor accepts alternative therapies uncritically
◎ Recognition that good medicine should be based in good science, be inquiry driven, and be open to new paradigms
◎ Use of natural, effective, less-invasive interventions whenever possible
◎ Use of the broader concepts of promotion of health and the prevention of illness as well as the treatment of disease
◎ Training of practitioners to be models of health and healing, committed to the process of self-exploration and self-development
Our long-term goals are to create public awareness of our program. This maintains an aggressive, ongoing multi-faceted public awareness program to educate the public on the importance of conservative health care options offered by our practitioners, and to motivate the public to follow good health habits for optimum function and wellness. Secondly, ICCAM will continually improve and promote the quality of care as to provide educational programs and service for our practitioners. The results will be to improve the quality in the health care system.
With the popularity of CAM, medical schools have begun offering courses in non-conventional methods. At ICCAM, we offer certification of complementary and alternative medicine, including chiropractics and naturopathy. Our programs are designed by recognized and experienced doctors to provide the best education possible for our students.
As times change over the course of medicinal advancements, we must strive to create a new generation of medical professions versed in the many fields of medicine. It is our objective to create and mold these young and subjective minds to better our community in terms of health, happiness, and prosperity.
